Monday

1st Phone Call of the Week

Hey dad, I thought I’d give you a call before I have to head across campus for chem lab.    How’s it goin?

What?  Are you serious?  Maggie?  What happened? How is she?

Raped?  Oh God.  How bad was the beating? That is so messed up, dad. I can’t believe it.

Is she gonna be okay, Dad?   Did they catch the guy?  What an asshole!   I’d beat the crap out of him.

How’s her mom?  She is probably a mess.

Tuesday

2nd Phone Call of the Week

Hey dad, I got your text about Maggie.  Glad to hear she’s gonna be okay.

We have something like that happening on campus.  Two, three guys tops. Real bad guys doing real bad stuff.   The girls walking alone at night, man, they don’t have a chance.

Yeah.  I know.  I even shared a post on Facebook, dad.   Now if only more kids will share it.  It was great.  It tells girls what will keep them safe.  You know, stuff like…don’t wear a ponytail because a guy can use it to yank and keep you under control, don’t walk in parking garages looking at your phone cause you are ‘off guard’ and a big target.   You know, stuff like that.

I know dad.  I’m ‘on it.’ We all gotta be on the lookout and help each other.  These thugs are really bad news doing really detestable things.

Okay.  Catch ya later.

Friday

3rd Phone Call of the Week

Hey dad, just checking in.  What’s going on?

Hey, dad, what do you mean? On Facebook?    All I did was share a post about what was going on someplace in the Middle East.  Can you believe it?  300 guys and one woman…dragging her thru the streets like that, beating her.

What?  What do you mean?  It’s just a post I shared.  I didn’t go looking for it.   We gotta help these women though dad.  And people need to see what going on.

What? What did you say?

But they were Muslims, dad.  That isn’t what I meant.  I didn’t mean to be saying THAT about Muslims.  What?  We gotta get the word out.  People aren’t paying attention to…

What?

No way dad.  Really?  Islamophobic?  WHAT?  I don’t’ mean to come off that way.  That isn’t me dad.  You know that.

It’s the truth though dad. It really is the truth.  I didn’t make it up…I mean….it was on a couple different sites.  And it’s really serious stuff….

Oh I see, yeah.  I didn’t think about that.  Yeah.  Yeah.  I get it.

No, dad.  I do get it.  I’ll take it down.  You are right, dad, I don’t want it hurting my job opportunities, Dad.  I understand.

No.  Don’t worry about it.   I won’t do it again.

LOON ALERT:

It is a despicable act when one guy rapes and beats a girl.

It is a despicable act when a couple of guys rape or beat a girl.

It is a despicable act when a frat party goes ‘roofie date rape.’

But when it is 300 Muslim men and one female?

The real problem is not the violent mob and certainly not dad who has no interest in so much as acknowledging the problem.

The real problem is the Islamophobic whistle blower.
